We can cast Rengeki every now and then right? And events of Tournaments?
I'm not sure how well it'll work in a MMO environment, you are of course speaking about R:2 right?
Yeah, I've never worked with 3D environments, I'm not so certain the web code would be able to handle. Though, Zaren and Tyrial would probably be able to answer more.
I'm not quite sure what you mean there by the web code and what it wouldn't be able to handle.
I honestly think Rengeki and Hangeki would be plausible in an MMO setting- Final Fantasy has something similar in the form of Limit Break.
As in how the server will handle the start and beginning, now that I'm thinking about it though, It really shouldn't be to difficult. I mean Rengeki isn't much but a combination of animations an attacks. You'd just need some damn good animation skills.
Well, if they can get a decent animator on board it won't be that big of a deal. And honestly, a Rengeki system is something that can always be implemented later. The UI additions and basic framework for it would be a minor change and could be implemented into the game before the actions and animations themselves are ever added in, and it's not something that's reliant on too much else that would cause serious issues trying to add it in with a patch. Like you said it's just a skill combo, and if they're using Unreal I don't think it'll be much of an issue. And the later implementation can tie into the animation issue- even if they don't get someone who's really great at it, they can forgo it's addition until they've gotten a bit more practice with everything else if they're really worried about clean animations.
If I can interject about it, not only the animation needs to be too damn good, or farther yet; great. But what would the program handle by the Admins here, is asking it too much?
Yeah, I was still under the assumption they were using a custom built engine. Which would take time to get a decent netcode going. Also Jet, I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, could you reword?
They're using the newest Unreal and are apparently professional devs, I don't think it'd be too much. It just might not happen right away.
And honestly, it doesn't need to look that great at the start. We're talking about game development here- if you try to do everything beautifully in first implementation, the game will never get off the ground. It will take too long, and if you have to change something about it later, you're increasing your work load exponentially.
I mean... look at this:
That's what world of warcraft used to look like.
You have to start from the ground up.
Yeah, did you see the early versions of EVE?
i meant the program to run it, i've tried taking a gaming creation class and whole hell of a lot of math
Oh the engine they are using is Unreal Engine 4. It was recently announced free, so they scrapped the custom engine and moved on to Unreal.
That was a major part of why we switched, but Unreal was still limiting some very important gameplay elements. However, after grabbing the UE4 source and making some changes, we decided to use it.
As far as the OP, we have rengeki and tournaments planned to be in the game on R2s alpha launch. However, the system has 2 "tournament" types.
Basically, in the arena you can either fight for ladder ranks OR participate in a hosted tournament. The ladder ranks will work by matching your party up against parties of similar "rank". You win, yours goes up, theirs goes down. How well you do decides how much. We will keep track of total damage done, total healing done, times close to death, etc.
One thing we are planning, albeit not for alpha release, is to have a way to view other peoples fights in real time on a "screen" in game. Maybe all of them, and you can flip to what you want. Maybe just tournaments. We haven't decided.
And yes, me and Zaren are both actual professional game developers and I can assure you that the workload for rengeki or tournaments is a non-issue
Well damn Tyrial, coming from the original dev team to you guys is like a god sent. Back then, we wouldn't even dream of requesting what you just posted. It wouldn't happen lol. Keep up the good work guys. I am really looking forward to seeing where you take this community!
We'll also have awakening modes, definitely at least Beast Mode in R2's Alpha release.
How many people of the Field or Dungeon Area limit? Still a party of 3 or more?
This is more of a Tyrial question but parties will have a limit of 3 and a field will allow quite a few people before it switches people to another channel. However people will be able to do guild raids and such.
I have posted a sticky about some of these things in the R2 announcements forum. Please check there
